Secretary
Carolyn Patterson
Although never having taken typing or done secretarial work professionally, Carolyn was asked to become church secretary starting in June 2004. Her training is in biology and chemistry at WVU where she hoped to become a doctor. With the Viet Nam War and her new husband, John, being asked to participate in that war, the Pattersons became teachers - a deferred profession in 1967. After teaching two years in York County and Williamsburg, VA the family moved back to WV and shortly started to add children to their nest. Carolyn returned to teaching in 1974 at BUHS and continued to teach or substitute until 1999. As her 4 children matured, Carolyn became more involved in community affairs. She was a 4-H leader, a parent volunteer at French Creek School, the Alliance Women’s president and the Fred Brooks Garden Club president. She also taught Sunday School and Ladies Bible Study for many years. She eventually served as WV Area Alliance Women’s President and Secretary, WV Garden Club Inc. President, as well as serving on both the regional and national boards of the garden club. Currently, she is serving on the Central District Alliance Women’s Retreat Committee and is the National Garden Club’s Pesticide Chairman and the South Atlantic Region’s Environmental Studies Schools Chairman.
